The Nest

Location: Captain John Palliser School, Brentwood, Calgary, AB
I was selected as one of three artists for Captain John Palliser School's outdoor mural project, centered on the theme of Community, Belonging, and Connection.
My mural, The Nest, symbolizes the school as a place of warmth, safety, and belonging for children, while the vibrant, outstretching tree represents growth and limitless potential. The background features Nose Hill, a familiar landmark located just behind CJP, grounding the design in the local landscape. I also incorporated native Calgary flowers to highlight the school's connection to its natural surroundings, creating a sense of harmony and reflecting the nurturing environment in which students can explore, learn, and thrive.
This project spanned approximately six months. During the painting process, I completed a small residency at the school, where I hosted workshops for over 200 students. I shared my artistic practice and guided students in creating their own drawings using my illustration approach, encouraging creativity and self-expression.
